Manchester United have enjoyed a much better Premier League campaign this season as opposed to last year.

But Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the table after spending in excess of £275million last summer and during the January transfer window has led to rumours suggesting United will try to fight fire with fire at the end of the season.

The Red Devils haven’t won the league after Sir Alex Ferguson retired back in 2013 and are yet to finish in the top three since.

And they’re hoping a huge overhaul of the squad in the summer will help topple Pep Guardiola’s side next season.

That’s according to The Sun on Sunday, who claim Mourinho has drawn up a list of six transfer targets.

And the report goes on to say United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will hand the Portuguese coach a £200million kitty to get his first-choice options.

United have been using Ashley Young as a makeshift full-back this season while there is no real back-up for Antonio Valencia on the right side of defence.

And Mourinho is keen to bolster his defensive options with moves for Alex Sandro, Danny Rose, Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin.

It is also said United will make a move for Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderweireld to help strengthen their back line.

Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian’s time at Old Trafford is reportedly coming to an end while Chris Smalling and Phil Jones’ futures are said to be on the line.

Recent reports have also suggested Luke Shaw is set to leave the club with Mourinho once again publicly criticising the former Southampton defender last month.

A new central midfielder is also on United’s list with Michael Carrick retiring in the summer and Marouane Fellaini set to leave on a free due to his contract running out.

And Napoli star Jorginho is said to be their preferred choice to pair up with Paul Pogba in United’s midfield.
