Sanchez was signed by United in January from Arsenal but has failed to hit the heights he reached at the Emirates.

He was left out of the squad completely on Saturday as United were beaten 3-1 by West Ham to pile the pressure on Mourinho.

The former Chelsea boss is facing calls to quit Manchester United having led the club to just ten points from their opening seven Premier League games.

And the Mirror claim that Sanchez could leave first with it reported that the Chilean left stunned by his exclusion against the Hammers.

Mourinho did explain his decision to leave out Sanchez, citing the supporters wish to have Anthony Martial in the line-up as a reason.

”Look for how many months are people asking for [Anthony] Martial, Martial, Martial and saying how Alexis isn’t play well enough,” Mourinho said.

“This week it was time to agree and leave Alexis out.

“I have no complaints about the player’s attitude. [Robert] Snodgrass came to the pitch with an incredible attitude, you need that genuine humility.

“There are certain qualities that you either have or you don’t have.”

Jesse Lingard also missed out on Saturday as United lost their second game in a row after defeat to Derby in the Carabao Cup.

And Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Mourinho should have put at least one of the pair on the bench.

“He never has been (afraid to make big decisions). He’s well within his rights,” Scholes said of Mourinho.

“You probably want to see them on the bench if it’s not going well in the last 20 minutes.

“They are players you think could score a goal.

“I know Jesse has not scored a goal for quite some time and I know Sanchez’s form just hasn’t been up to scratch.

“So you can understand where he’s come from with them two.”
